ORANGE, Calif. — Loyola finished the season on top once again.
The Cubs defeated Santa Margarita 14-6 on May 16 at Fred Kelly Stadium to capture the CIF Southern Section Division 1 boys lacrosse championship. Loyola, the No. 1 seed, controlled the game throughout and used a balanced attack and strong defensive performance to pull away from the Eagles.
Senior Cash Ginsberg led Loyola offensively with five goals, while junior Tripp King added two. The Cubs continued to create opportunities throughout the game while keeping Santa Margarita from finding much consistency on the offensive end.

Loyola’s defense played a major role in the victory. Chase Hellie and Everett Rolph helped lead the defensive unit, while junior goalkeeper William Russo provided a strong performance in goal.
Santa Margarita, the No. 2 seed, had put together a strong postseason run to reach the championship game, but Loyola’s pressure made it difficult for the Eagles to establish a rhythm.
As the game progressed, Loyola continued to build its lead and eventually turned the championship into a comfortable 14-6 victory.
The win capped a 16-3 season for the Cubs and added another CIF-SS championship to one of Southern California’s most successful lacrosse programs.
For Santa Margarita, the loss ended an impressive postseason run. For Loyola, it was another championship and another season finished at the top of the Southern Section.
The Cubs once again showed why they remain one of the premier programs in Southern California high school lacrosse.
