LOS ANGELES, Calif. — USC gave its seniors a memorable finish at Dedeaux Field.
The Trojans defeated Nevada 12-4 on May 9, closing out the regular season at home with a comeback win. The victory also gave USC its best home record in program history, as the Trojans finished 32-1 at Dedeaux Field.
The afternoon was about more than the final score, though. USC recognized its seniors before the game, giving them one final chance to take the field at Dedeaux Field during the regular season.
On the field, Nevada initially gave the Trojans a challenge. The Wolf Pack took a 3-2 lead in the sixth inning, but USC quickly responded. Maximo Martinez tied the game with an RBI single before Adrian Lopez brought home Andrew Lamb on a sacrifice fly to put the Trojans ahead.
USC broke the game open in the seventh.
The Trojans scored eight runs in the inning, including five home runs, to turn a close game into a comfortable lead. Jack Basseer and Walter Urbon each hit two-run homers, while Adrian Lopez followed with a solo shot. Kevin Takeuchi capped the inning with a two-run home run that traveled an estimated 450 feet.
The offensive outburst gave USC all the separation it needed, and the Trojans finished off the 12-4 victory.
For the senior class, the win provided a fitting ending to the team’s home schedule. USC had been nearly unbeatable at Dedeaux Field all season, and the final game reflected the team’s ability to stay composed even after falling behind.
The Trojans still had road games remaining before the postseason, but Senior Day marked the end of another chapter at home.
USC walked away with a historic home record, a series sweep and, most importantly for the seniors, one final win in front of the home crowd.
