Then the game opened up, and LAFC showed exactly why it remains one of Major League Soccer’s most dangerous teams.

A pair of second-half goals from Mathieu Choinière lifted LAFC to a 2-0 victory over St. Louis in March at BMO Stadium, giving the Black and Gold another strong result in the early stages of the season.

The match was controlled by LAFC from the opening whistle, with the home side creating several quality opportunities before halftime. Denis Bouanga nearly opened the scoring early when his shot rattled off the crossbar, while Nathan Ordaz also came close after beating the St. Louis defense but finding the post instead.

Despite LAFC’s attacking pressure, St. Louis managed to keep the game scoreless heading into the break.

The visitors relied on a compact defensive shape and looked to create chances on the counterattack, but LAFC’s back line stayed organized. Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris made several important saves to keep St. Louis off the scoreboard and preserve another clean sheet.

LAFC’s patience eventually paid off in the second half.

In the 73rd minute, Choinière broke the deadlock with a composed finish, cutting through the St. Louis defense and giving LAFC the lead it had been chasing all night. Just minutes later, he struck again, putting the match away and sending the home crowd into celebration.

St. Louis pushed forward in search of a response, but LAFC closed out the match with the same defensive discipline it showed throughout the night. The result was another complete performance from a team built on balance at both ends of the field.

For LAFC, the victory continued a strong start to the season and highlighted the team’s ability to stay composed when goals are difficult to find. The performance was not defined by a fast start, but by the ability to keep creating chances and eventually break through.

For St. Louis CITY SC, the result was a reminder of the small margins in MLS. The defense held firm for much of the match, but LAFC’s quality in the final third proved to be the difference.

When the final whistle sounded, LAFC had earned three points and another statement win, while Choinière delivered the moment that separated the two sides.
