NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Liverpool began its preseason tour of the United States with a 4-2 victory over Sunderland on July 25 at GEODIS Park.

The match brought two English clubs to Nashville for a summer friendly, giving fans at the home of Nashville SC a chance to see Premier League competition in the middle of the city.

For Liverpool, the match also marked the first game under new head coach Andoni Iraola. The Reds wasted little time giving their new manager a winning start.

Kieran Morrison opened the scoring before Dominik Szoboszlai added another for Liverpool. Federico Chiesa and Lewis Koumas also found the net as Liverpool’s attack continued to create chances throughout the match.

Sunderland managed to stay in the game and scored twice, but Liverpool’s attacking pressure eventually proved too much. The Reds finished with a 4-2 win in front of 24,897 fans at GEODIS Park.

The result was less important than the opportunity for both clubs to gain valuable minutes ahead of the 2026-27 season. For Liverpool, it was an early look at Iraola’s team and an opportunity for players to begin building fitness and chemistry.

For Sunderland, the match provided a chance to test itself against one of England’s biggest clubs in an unfamiliar setting.

The Nashville crowd added another element to the occasion. Supporters from both sides filled GEODIS Park, creating an atmosphere more similar to a competitive match than a typical preseason friendly.

Liverpool left Nashville with the result it wanted, but the bigger takeaway was the start of a new chapter under Iraola.

The preseason still had a long way to go, but Liverpool’s first appearance in the United States ended with four goals, a win and plenty for the new manager to evaluate.
